Qualcomm is one of the companies that are involved in order to bring the future of communication and give the world a new communication standard 5G. Can we call the timely desire to transition to higher-speed technology in a world where not all subscribers can even boast the ability to use LTE? This and other questions were addressed in the framework held in Moscow a round table with the participation of Qualcomm.

As we know, the first tests of 5G in Russia, the company will hold together with the operator “MegaFon” in the next year, in the framework of the world Cup. Commercial deployment of the technology is going to start in 2019, then the device manufacturers and mobile operators expect to prepare the necessary infrastructure for the implementation of this idea in life.

In the background, as in Russia, in the active stage is the testing capacity needed to run networking Gigabit LTE, users and analysts are wondering: is it too fast are we going in the future, and what our mobile gadgets needed such insane speed, which 10 years ago even our home routers and could not dream?

As the Director business development Qualcomm Europe Sergey Korobov, in recent years, the demand for high speed mobile Internet is constantly growing and does not think to decline. As “smartphonenation” of the planet more and more users want to access to the right information and content from their handheld gadgets, not traditional computers. That this trend is not going to change in the coming years, no doubt.

But not only does it affect the increase in demand for such services. The number of Internet-connected devices is growing not only due to the increase in the number of smartphones in recent years actively developing the Internet of things, besides the car manufacturers continue to experiment with technologies that will enable vehicles to communicate with each other and to access big data with the purpose of increase of level of safety on the roads.

Of course, this is just like high speeds is not enough: the necessary communication technology, able to handle the requests of a giant number of devices. This is what is ready to offer the 5G standard, developed by Qualcomm.

The main part of this puzzle will be a new modem X50, that will support millimeter frequency range, for example, 24,25-or 27,5 27,5 GHz-29,5 GHz. Such opportunities will allow you to connect to the WAN where a greater number of devices without any impact on speed.

Of course, to be in this happy future, one create 5G modem is not enough. Representatives of Qualcomm acknowledged that among the manufacturers of connected devices there is no clear visibility of how will the Internet of things ecosystem and in what direction will the vector of its development. It also requires a major upgrade and communication infrastructure operators, which is associated not only with a large amount of effort required, but with huge costs that will have to go.

In General, I have to wait a couple of years, and there already we will be able to answer the question posed in the title of this article. By the way, if you are upset by the recent failure of the Russian mobile operators from unlimited tariffs, Qualcomm comforted us and predicted their inevitable return, citing recorded in recent months, the net profit of the Western operators, who choose this format of communication services.
