The text was amended at the insistence of the United States
The Ministers of foreign Affairs and trade of the States, participants of the APEC summit in da Nang, issued a joint statement. The statement was published three days later than planned, as the U.S. sought to amend the final text.
The statement contains a traditional statement of commitment to free and open trade, the fight against protectionism, but also indicate the need for fair trade and that the members of APEC “should abide by the rules.”
