#CES 2018 | Company Helite has developed a airbag for people

Airbags for vehicles have become a part of our lives, but airbags for people is something new. In the framework of the annual exhibition CES 2018, which opened its doors to visitors in Las Vegas, the French company Helite has presented its new development – a belt with an integrated airbag, similar to that installed in cars.

Helite for many years engaged in the creation of airbags of different shapes and purposes: for pilots of small planes, motorcyclists and even horse riding. In the same year, they announced a new generation airbags designed for fans of dangerous Hobbies and extreme sports. The novelty has received the name of Hip’ Air, it weighs only one kilo and looks like an ordinary belt, which instantly reacts to the fall of man and expands around his waist the airbag.

On average even the fastest fall of man takes about 400 milliseconds. High-precision gyroscopes and accelerometers mounted at the Hip’ Air, allow the belt to define the beginning of the fall after 200 milliseconds and deploy the airbag even takes an additional 80 milliseconds. This is enough in order to avoid serious injuries of the pelvis and spine, which most often happen to people during class extreme sports. The head, of course, the right thing to protect with the help of safety helmets and other devices.

The device will go on sale in Europe in March of this year, and in the US, it will appear a bit later in September. The cost of the waist airbag is impressive – it will cost you $ 790. If you want to recharge it after use, you will have to fork out another $ 50. Expensive? Of course, but health is much more expensive.
