The lawmaker resigned after allegations of sexual harassment
A member of the house of representatives from Texas, Republican Blake Farenthold that his former assistant was accused of sexual harassment, unexpectedly declared the resignation.
Despite the fact that Farenthold denies the allegations of sexual harassment, he stated that he would not seek re-election in November. He made this statement a week after the ethics Committee of the house of representatives announced that validates the accusations of Farenthold sexual harassment, discrimination and harassment of employees.
His resignation took effect on Friday afternoon, 6 April 2018. Farenthold, who was first elected to Congress in 2011, joined the list of legislators who had to leave or give up the fight for re-election because of allegations of sexual harassment.
In December, Politico reported that the Supervisory Department of the Congress has paid on behalf of Farenthold 84 thousand dollars in connection with allegations of sexual harassment.
In 2014, the former communications Director Lauren Greene filed a lawsuit, accusing Farenthold in creating unfriendly environment in the workplace, gender discrimination and retaliation. According to a statement from the Congressman’s office, in 2015 Farenthold and green entered into a confidential settlement agreement.
