The ex-President are concerned that an online community can live in completely different realities
Ex-US President Barack Obama said the British Prince Harry, one of the dangers of the Internet is that “people can live in completely different realities” and surround yourself with information, “which reinforces their current subjective point of view.”
Prince Harry in September, interviewed Obama for a program that aired Wednesday on radio BBC.
Former American leader, who left his post in January after eight years in office, said he believes it is important that the online community came out in the offline sphere, allowing people to get to know each other.
“The Internet is all exaggerated, but when I meet people face to face, is that they are complicated, Obama said. – You find common ground, because I understand that it’s not as easy as it seems in the chat”.
He added that personal communication is more difficult to be “such a brazen and cruel”, as in the Internet.
Obama admitted that he missed working President, “because it was very exciting”, but after retirement he gained a sense of “serenity” and the opportunity to focus on long term issues he could not come to grips with in the White house.
“It allows me to focus on how I pass on the acquired knowledge and experience with others to help them become stronger and more efficient, he said. And now I was really keen on bringing a new generation of leaders who will be able to leave your mark in the world.”
As an example, he cited the recent hurricanes in Texas, Florida and Puerto Rico, noting that the main task of the President in this situation is to provide aid.
“Today is not my direct responsibility, but in the next 20 years, I can focus on that in the future, we no longer have hurricanes or other natural disasters, which are becoming more frequent due to climate change,” said Obama.
He noted that it is important to give young people the opportunity to make decisions because she has the “energy and spirit”, which is not the people of his age.
“Young people have a fresh view of the possible”, – considers ex-the President.
Discussing the role of the leader, Obama said that with power people can do his job, if he can not “genuinely care about the needs of people who are engaged.”
“If you don’t understand what your everyday work greatly affects others, you should not be doing this,” he said.
