The bill provides for a ban on the import of certain goods and services and the restriction of economic ties
Russian lawmakers on Friday announced it had drafted a bill in response to new American sanctions prohibiting the import of certain American goods and services, and restrict economic ties.
The bill will submit for discussion in the lower house of Parliament next week.
The authors propose to restrict the import of American software and farm products, medical drugs that can be purchased in other countries, as well as tobacco and alcohol.
The MPs also proposed to prohibit cooperation with the United States in the field of nuclear energy, production of rocket engines and aircraft.
The bill also provides for a ban on the participation of American companies in the privatization of property in Russia.
LDPR leader Vladimir Zhirinovsky also said that the bill provides for a ban on entry into Russia a number of US citizens, including highly qualified specialists.
The package is a response to the introduction last week of sanctions against Russia, which was the severest since the annexation of Crimea.
The bill presented to the journalists the Vice-speaker of the State Duma.
“In response to the acts of a hostile nature on the part of the US, all political forces in the state Duma expressed the need for the introduction of retaliatory measures of an economic and political nature”, – said the first Vice-speaker of the state Duma Ivan Melnikov.
Neither the Kremlin nor the government did not indicate whether they support the proposed measures.
However, the press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov has declared to journalists that the Kremlin will take time to examine the proposals of the deputies on the anticancer.
“While we have not yet read carefully the essence of the proposed set of counter-sanctions, it will take some time, but in any case, of course, it is safe to assume that any measures to be taken will not be to the detriment of Russian national interests,” – said the representative of the Kremlin.
Peskov added that, in his opinion, “is quite understandable in the interest of our parliamentarians to the topic of countering hostile sanctions policy, which is carried out against our country, a number of States”.
According to official data of the Russian customs service, in 2017, the volume of Russian imports from the US amounted to 12.5 billion dollars.
Among imported goods – aircraft, equipment, pharmaceutical and chemical products.
