The Minister of defence stated that it looks forward to working with the new Advisor to the President for national security
John Bolton, appointed Advisor to the President of the trump national security, on Thursday meets with Secretary of defense James Mattis, according to the Pentagon.
It is not clear whether this meeting is the first meeting of Bolton and Mattis first today: earlier Wednesday, they had to appear at the White house, but at different events.
On Tuesday, Mattis told reporters that familiar with Bolton, but does not expect any difficulties in building a working relationship with him.
“No doubt, no fear, – he said. – It will be partnership. We will move forward.”
About the future working relationship of Mattis and Bolton raises some concerns, since Bolton last held the post of permanent representative to the UN, known for an aggressive approach in defence, while Mattis has repeatedly stressed that first and foremost one should resort to diplomatic methods.
“I hope there will be some divergence of views on the world,’ said Mattis reporters earlier this week. – This is a normal situation, if you do not aim for group think.”
The meeting will take place amid reports that Mattis might visit China in the coming months.
“The ministries of defence of both countries agree on this issue”, – said on Thursday the official representative of the Ministry of defense of the PRC.
