Political analyst Yevgeny Minchenko — about the most likely consequences of the new bill of U.S. senators

The essence of the new bill, which came from us senators, is as follows. Within the Republican party there are a few senators who deliberately build their political business in the fight against Russia. First and foremost, John McCain and Lindsay Graham. They are the main instigators of all actions aimed at toughening of stance against Russia.
For a long time, they actively criticized the Democrats and Obama personally, for excessive softness in relation to Russia. Suffice it to recall how in 2012 during the presidential debate, MITT Romney called Russia the main geopolitical enemy of America, and Barack Obama picked it up to laugh. What is particularly interesting is that after that Romney ridiculed the same liberal media that today tell the world how dangerous Russia, which today is actively spreading the information about “the Russian intervention in the American elections” and about the threat to democracy that is supposedly coming from Moscow.
So, then the same Pro-democracy media put MITT Romney does not understand politics. “What kind of Russia the main geopolitical enemy?” — they wrote.
To criticize Obama for being too soft towards Russia has become a tradition for a large part of the Republican party. During the just-concluded election campaign, a candidate for Vice-President Mike Pence at the debate with Tim Cain “carried” Obama and Hillary Clinton for excessive softness in relation to Russia and urged to take a tougher stance in particular on the Ukrainian question. Within the Republican party is quite influential wing, which believes that Russia should be punished for their policies. Therefore, the fact of the appearance of this bill, the big surprise should not be.
Another question, why this initiative has emerged right now? Most likely, it is attempt to torpedo Rex Tillerson, whose candidate Donald trump has nominated for the post of Secretary of state to, first, loosen the trump, and secondly, to bring to a logical conclusion the topic of when trump with Russia.
It should be noted that the support of Republicans such bills will not only create problems for Rex Tillerson, but also a blow to their own party.
For the first time since 1920, the Republicans have the opportunity to control not only the presidency and both houses of Congress, but also the Supreme court. Besides, the Republicans already control two-thirds of the regional legislative assemblies and most of the governors.
This means that today the Republican party is totally dominant in American public space. In these circumstances, to arrange the split on quite secondary to the Russian question would be, to put it mildly, shortsighted.
Therefore, I am inclined to believe that this initiative will remain a PR stunt and will not be implemented. I would venture to suggest that the Republicans still haven’t tripped to the newly elected President from his party. Although there is a risk of its passing.
However, this story is an internal affair of the Republican party and the relationship of the tramp with the establishment, and Russia to react should not. However, we understand that the anti-Russian inertia in the American establishment, including the Republican, is very high. And President Donald Trump, obviously, will have soon something to do.
We should follow the sayings of our politicians. All offensive attacks, especially with racist overtones, to the American officials, including us President Barack Obama, is now invalid. Americans have such a feature: they may hate Obama, consider his policies are extremely harmful, but it will be extremely painful to accept any insults from the outside. Therefore, it is very important not to slide into confrontational, offensive language in relation to the outgoing President.
