The head of the Pentagon stated that it was necessary to figure out why Syria still used the chemical weapons
The Minister of defence of the USA James Mattis said that the U.S. does not exclude the possibility of military action against Syria after President Donald trump has threatened that “will have to pay a high price” for the Sabbath “crazy chemical attack”.
Mattis told reporters that the US “work with allies and partners from NATO to Qatar and other countries,” and intend to “address this issue”.
“First and foremost we need to understand why still used chemical weapons, while Russia acted as the guarantor of withdrawal of all chemical weapons,” said Mattis on Monday, holding a meeting at the Pentagon with Qatari Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani.
Syria denies that it used chemical weapons during the conflict, which began in 2011, including last Saturday in the Damascus suburb of Duma, killing at least 40 people. Russia insists that the evidence of use of chemical weapons there.
