Макмастер обвинил Россию в попытках повлиять на выборы в Мексике

White house adviser on national security said that it is a “sophisticated” efforts of the polarization of democratic societies

The Russian authorities have embarked on a sophisticated campaign to influence the upcoming presidential elections in Mexico and to sow disunity in the country.

This was stated by senior employee of the White house in the video, published by Mexican newspaper Reforma.

The national security adviser Herbert McMaster, in his speech at the Jamestown Foundation in Washington in December, said that already there is evidence of Russian interference in the elections in Mexico, which will be held in July.

“We are talking about really sophisticated efforts of the polarization of democratic societies and the setting up of groups within those societies against each other,” says McMaster in a previously unpublished extract from his speech of 15 December, placed on Twitter a journalist for the Mexican daily newspaper Reforma on Saturday.

“The first signs of interference in the election campaign of the President of Mexico has already seen,” said former U.S. Army General McMaster.

However, he didn’t go into the details of how Russia is trying to influence the election.

Reforma newspaper on Saturday published an article on the request of McMaster, which is widespread in social networks.

Advisor to Donald trump on national security added that the US government is concerned about Russia’s use of advanced cyberintrusion for propaganda and disinformation.

The Kremlin has repeatedly denied accusations by representatives of the American intelligence and other of meddling in elections abroad.

In July, Mexico will hold elections, which will decide the successor, Enrique peña Nieto, who is by law forbidden to run for a second six-year term.

There will be elections to the Congress of Mexico, and some governors.

Public opinion polls show that the leader of the presidential race is the former mayor of Mexico city, leftist politician Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador, who plays with the anti-corruption agenda.

Lopez Obrador has already participated in presidential elections and twice took the second place. The last ten years he is considered a polarizing figure in Mexican politics.

Some analysts consider him the favorite of the Kremlin, given the positive news about him published by Russian media Sputnik and RT (Russia Today).

Russia and China are showing increasing interest in Latin America, while the USA when trump took a more protectionist stance, and the future of the North American free trade agreement seems uncertain.

Lopez Obrador, sharply criticized the energy sector reform undertaken by the current President of Mexico, which is supported by the American government and oil companies. He said he would seek friendly relations with the American government, but will demand respect.

In 2016, the Spanish-language channel Russia Today YouTube launched the weekly video blog “Battle of Mexico”, who leads an influential supporter of Lopez Obrador.

This was reported by David salvo from the German Marshall Fund of the United States, writing about Russia’s attempts to influence the policies of Latin American countries.

The administration of peña Nieto and Mexico’s foreign Ministry did not respond to a request to comment on the statement McMaster.

Some Mexican political observer I believe that a serious reason to fear Russian interference in the elections there.

“The fact that Washington has not presented any reliable evidence of this, – says the head of the Mexico city-based consulting firm Inteligencia Publica Marco Cancino. – While this is only speculation.”
