Russia has signaled that it will veto in the UN security Council prepared for the France resolution on Syria. Moscow said that he sees opportunities for the adoption of the document and considers it a provocation
The draft resolution on the introduction of ceasefire in Aleppo, Syria submitted by France, has no possibility for adoption of the UN Security Council. This was stated to journalists by the permanent representative of Russia to the UN Vitaly Churkin.
“This is not the version of the resolution that should be taken. I have a suspicion that the real motive is to provoke a veto from Russia”, — quotes the words of Churkin Reuters. “I see no possibility how this resolution can go,” he added.
The vote in the UN Security Council on a draft resolution calling on Russia and the United States to ensure an immediate ceasefire in Aleppo, will be held this Saturday, the Agency said.
Permanent representative of France Francois Delattr said Friday that he had asked the UN security Council to take a vote on the draft resolution on Saturday. “We have no time, in Aleppo, we have an emergency situation”, — quotes Reuters his words.
In the text of the French draft resolution, seen by Reuters, it is proposed, in particular, to create the possibility of control over the truce with the UN. Also, the text calls for “further measures” in case of non-observance of the truce “of any of the parties involved in the internal Syrian conflict.”
The draft resolution also calls on Russia and the United States to “guarantee the immediate cessation of hostilities, starting from Aleppo, and to this end all military flights over the city.”
Last Thursday the French foreign Minister Jean-Marc Ayrault visited Moscow, where he met with his Russian counterpart Sergei Lavrov. Today the French Minister, went to visit in the United States. As reported by Reuters, the purpose of the trip Ayrault — to convince the us government to accept a proposal by France to resolution of the UN Security Council on Syria.
Last week, Deputy foreign Minister Gennady Gatilov called the French draft resolution “one-sided” and pointed out that Russia will introduce its own amendments to the text.
