One of Clarke’s laws States: any sufficiently advanced technology is indistinguishable from magic. And if a few centuries ago, the most accurate way to know the future was to go to the shaman or the fortune teller that nothing but witchcraft could be named, in the modern world to help can come from technology. For example, scientists from the University of Michigan (USA) have created a neural network-psychic that is able to literally predict future events.
The new technology is based on the so-called memristor. The memristor is a special type of resistive devices which are able to carry out logical operations and store data. In other words, if it is in order to train the neural network takes many months of hard work in order to “invest” knowledge in the neural network, the memristor (or, as they are called reservoir computing system) work slightly differently: when a system enters a data set, the neural network recognizes their properties and passes them to the secondary subnet, which deals with data analysis and able to build a logical chain between them. Moreover, this approach is great for handling data that changes over time and depends on the previous results: conversation, exchange rates and so on. Thus, on the basis of experience that a system acquires in the process of “life”, she begins to better understand what will happen in the future and even predict events. As stated in an interview phys.org one of the study’s authors Professor Wei Lu,
“We can predict human speech, so you don’t even have to say the whole word. If you will communicate with our neural network for some time, it will be able to predict what you’ll say in a second”.
