McCain said the United States and other countries of the free world should “give her everything she needs for self defense”
Republican Senator John McCain, who heads the Senate Committee on armed services, welcomed the decision of the President of the United States Donald trump on the supply of lethal small arms Ukraine and urged to add anti-tank ammunition.
“The decision to authorize the trade sniper rifles and ammunition should be only the first step. I urge the President to approve the additional sales of defensive lethal weapons, including anti-tank ammunition,” – said McCain.
He also urged the administration to trump a fully use the package of military assistance to Ukraine in the amount of $ 350 million, which was approved by the U.S. Congress.
“This decision should have been made years ago, but nevertheless it was accepted at a critical time,” added McCain.
He reminded that Russia refused to participate in the Joint center for control and coordination (JCCC) of the ceasefire in the zone of armed conflict in the Donbass, linking this step with the subsequent intensification of hostilities.
“At every stage of the President of Russia Vladimir Putin made a choice in favor of war, not peace in Ukraine, – underline McCain. And yet he continues to make such decisions, the United States and other countries of the free world should give Ukraine all she needed for self-defense.”
Earlier this month the administration of President trump approved the first commercial sales of U.S. lethal defensive weapons to Ukraine, which could mean a major change in its policy towards Russia.
The U.S. state Department spokesman Heather Nauert told CNN that the foreign Ministry December 13 notified Congress that it had approved the export license, which allows Ukraine to buy a certain light weapons and small arms from American manufacturers.
