From 1 April Sheremetyevo international airport closes for reconstruction of the terminal C. In 2019 it is planned to integrate it with a newly built terminal B, the opening of which is expected in 2018
Sheremetyevo international airport on Saturday, April 1, decommissions, and closes for the reconstruction of the terminal, said the airport received by RBC.
The report notes that in 2019, the terminal will be integrated with the construction of terminal B, scheduled for opening in 2018, and to expand the capacity of the North terminal complex of Sheremetyevo airport as a whole.
On the website of Sheremetyevo airport reportedthat flights of airlines previously flying out of terminal C, will be transferred to the terminals E and F. the report notes that in terminal E at the end of April will be entered new check-in desks. From terminal F flights will be operated Ariana Afghan Airlines in Kabul, terminal E — flight Air Algerie in Algeria. Russian airline Nordwind Airlines, will operate international flights from both terminals. In addition, in the optimization of business processes and improve the quality of passenger service on 22 April, the Air Serbia flights are transferred from terminal F to terminal E, said at Sheremetyevo.
Terminal C was opened in 2007 in the Northern part of the airport. In an area of 40 thousand sq m on three floors was installed 30 check-in counters, 36 passport control Windows, three conveyor baggage and six aerobridges. With the opening of more modern complexes D and E the value of the terminal began to decline and he began to serve mainly international Charter flights.
According to the annual report of the Sheremetyevo airport for the year 2015, through the terminal C in 2015 made 7908 flights (in 2014 — 9312 flights). The decrease was 15.1%, the company explains it by the reduction of the Charter program Pegas Touristik, operator of the airline “North Wind”. The terminal capacity is 4.6 million passengers per year (for the terminal F to 6.5 million passengers, terminal D — 21.0 million passengers, the terminal E of 4.6 million passengers per year). The share of passenger traffic through the terminal C in 2015 was 4.2% of the total traffic. This decline, the company in the report explained the low loading of the seats of foreign airlines, as well as termination of flights in 2014 airline Air One.
Sheremetyevo international airport is the largest Russian airport in terms of passenger and freight transportation. The route network hub consists of more than 200 destinations. For the first 11 months of 2016, the airport served 31 million 270 thousand, which is 6.7% higher than last year. The number of passengers on domestic flights grew by 13 million 902 thousand, which is higher compared to the previous year by 9.2%. The number of passengers on international routes amounted to 17 million 368 thousand people, an increase of 4.8%.
In mid-March 2017 Sheremetyevo airport reported on the results of production activities for January—February 2017. According to published data, the number of passengers since the beginning of the year increased by 17.3% compared to the same period of 2016 and reached 5 million 251 thousand.
