The court’s decision
Sony will have to pay compensation to all owners of smartphones and tablets, Sony Xperia, whose machines suffered from immersion in water. Recall, the advertising company is positioning the whole series of Sony Xperia waterproof, which gives the company an advantage in the promotion of these devices on the market. However, many users wishing to test for “water resistance” of the purchased apparatus, were forced after that to spend on repairs.
The decision on compensation was made to the Federal court of the city of new York, USA. The court considered a class action lawsuit filed against Sony Mobile Communications (U. S. A.), Inc. and Sony Electronics, Inc. the affected customers. During the proceedings it was established that the Sony Xperia smartphones can be called water-resistant (water-resistant) but not waterproof (waterproof), as stated in specifications. Accordingly, commercials, in which the owners do with them underwater pictures are not true.
The plaintiffs demanded extended warranties on purchased Sony Xperia for another 12 months, if the original warranty is still in effect, or six months if the initial term has expired. In addition, it is possible to return 50% of the cost of vehicles those customers who joined the complaint. The court approved these measures, but it may not yet be the final solution. Sony has until December 1 to agree on the final terms of compensation. The compensation will be valid only in the United States.
