The court in new York found guilty of corruption former heads of the football federations of Brazil and Paraguay
A jury in new York convicted of corruption two former high-ranking football officials. This is the first court verdict on the case of corruption in FIFA.
A jury convicted Jose Maria Marina, the former President of the Brazilian football Confederation, Juan angel Naput, the former head of the Paraguayan football Federation, conspiracy to commit extortion. Marin was found guilty on six of seven counts, Naut – three of the five.
The jury was unable to reach consensus on the degree of culpability of Manuel Burga, the former President of the Peruvian football Federation.
All three were arrested in 2015. The prosecution indicates that they received millions of dollars in bribes from various companies.
