General Nicholson said that Afghan and American military managed to thwart the plan of creating a “Caliphate” of ISIS
The us military in Afghanistan are once again vowed to defeat the militants grouping “Islamic state”, said the commander of U.S. forces and NATO in the country, General John Nicholson.
“We can win and we will win the “Islamic state,” he told the Afghan service of “Voice of America”. – Our main goal was to stop their attempts to create a Caliphate in Nangarhar province, and now we are doing it”.
The self-proclaimed province of the “Islamic state” Khorasan appeared in the mountainous regions of Afghanistan and Pakistan more than two years ago, creating chaos in several provinces of Afghanistan including Nangarhar, where the group is present in several areas.
Nicholson said that the plan of creating a “Caliphate” of ISIS in Afghanistan was foiled by Afghan and American forces.
“”Islamic state Khorasan province” tried to create a Caliphate in Afghanistan. They announced that Jalalabad would be the capital and they will take of Nangarhar under their control, but they failed,” said Nicholson.
The President of the United States Donald trump announced a new policy on Afghanistan, in accordance with which the commanders on the ground have got the authority to make decisions regarding combat operations.
The U.S. and Afghanistan said that due to their operations security managed to reduce the number of groups and the territory controlled by fighters.
