Human rights activists appealed to the Ukrainian authorities with demand to stop persecution of media
Based in new York, the Committee to protect journalists (CPJ) Wednesday expressed protest in connection with a search at the Kiev office of the Russian state Agency RIA “Novosti” and the detention of the journalist Kirill Vyshinsky.
In his statement, HRT said that the General Prosecutor of Ukraine Yury Lutsenko put forward against employees of the Agency and personally to Kirill Vyshinsky allegations of anti-Ukrainian activity and “treason”, and did not present any evidence confirming these allegations.
“We urge the Ukrainian authorities to publish submitted (reporters) the charges and evidence against Wyszynski, or immediately release him, said the coordinator of European and Central Asian programs Nina XJ Ognianova. We also urge the Ukrainian authorities to stop the harassment and impeding the professional activities of Russian media in Ukraine. The criminalization of alternative views and news should not be place in democratic Ukraine”.
The Committee to protect journalists found it necessary to remind you that this organization has repeatedly protested against the harassment of journalists and attacks on media in Russia and Ukraine.
