Mattis Mirziyoev and expressed their commitment to strategic cooperation
The Minister of defence of the USA James Mattis took the Pentagon of the President of Uzbekistan Shavkat Mirziyoyev to renew the strategic partnership between the two countries.
This was reported by press Secretary of the Pentagon Dana white.
In a statement following the meeting, white said that Mattis Mirziyoev and discussed mutual interests in security and emerging issues.
“The two leaders reaffirmed their shared commitment to Afghanistan’s stability and continued cooperation in the security sphere”, – she added.
Speaking before the meeting, Mattis thanked Mirziyoyev for the integrating approach of Uzbekistan to the neighboring countries of Central Asia, especially Afghanistan.
According to him, this approach allows to expand the economic potential of people in the country and across the region.
“Uzbekistan and NATO share common interests in regional security and we are keen to cooperate more closely with Uzbekistan in the areas of counter-terrorism and border security,” said the American Minister.
