During the visit, the Vice President will also visit Alaska and Japan
The American delegation at the winter Olympics in South Korea will be headed by Vice-President Mike Pence and his wife Karen, said Wednesday at the White house.
During the visit, the Vice President will also visit Alaska, where he will familiarize himself with the work of the Intercontinental missile defence systems, and will pay a visit to Japan. According to the White house, in talks with Japanese and South Korean leaders Pens will emphasize the U.S. commitment to stability in the region.
We will remind that on Tuesday, North Korea agreed to send a high-level delegation to the winter Olympic games in South Korea’s Pyeongchang, which will begin on 9 February.
This proposal was made on Tuesday in the first direct talks between representatives of the autocratic North and democratic South, which took place in the border village of Panmunjom, where in 1953 an agreement was signed about a cease-fire that ended the Korean war.
These negotiations broke the long period of freezing of inter-Korean relations, which have recently experienced a worsening due to the development of North Korean nuclear and missile programmes, in violation of international sanctions, and also due to exchange of harsh words between the leader of North Korea and the President of the United States.
The President of South Korea, moon Jae-In on Tuesday thanked US President Donald trump for assistance in establishing dialogue with North Korea. According to him, us sanctions against the regime, along with continued pressure apparently contributed to Pyongyang’s decision to return to the negotiating table.
