The President is dissatisfied with the location and cost of the new building commissioned under Obama
The US President Donald trump on Thursday evening said that it has revised its earlier plan to visit the UK to participate in the opening ceremony of the new U.S. Embassy in London.
Trump announced his decision on Twitter amid reports that his arrival in the UK may be met with protests.
The President wrote that he decided to cancel scheduled for next month as dissatisfied with the location and cost of the new building of the Embassy.
“I canceled a trip to London, because I’m not a fan of the Obama administration’s decisions to sell the best and conveniently located Embassy in London for a pittance, only to build a new one in an awkward place for $ 1.2 billion,” wrote trump.
“A bad deal. Wanted me to cut the ribbon!”
Trump was also invited to put a full state visit to the UK in addition to visit for the opening of the Embassy – however, due to concerns over possible protests date has not been determined.
January 7, Prime Minister Theresa may said that the visit is still planned.
“Trump will arrive in the UK,” she said.
