Rex Tillerson stated that pipeline construction entails risks for stability in Europe
The United States opposes construction of the pipeline “Nord stream – 2” from Russia to Germany. This was stated by U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson following the meeting with Prime Minister of Poland Mateusz Morawiecki.
Tillerson noted that the construction of the pipeline bears the risk for the energy security and stability in Europe. In turn Moravicki noticed that Warsaw adheres to similar to Washington’s views and considers the construction of the pipeline tool of political pressure.
On the eve against the construction of “Nord stream – 2” was made by the President of Poland Andrzej Duda. However, according to the Polish President, Warsaw is working to diversify energy sources and seeks the best conditions for Russian gas supplies.
“Nord stream – 2” is the pipeline through which Russian gas directly to Germany and Western Europe will flow under the Baltic sea, not through Poland and Ukraine. The sole shareholder of the project is “Gazprom”. The construction cost of the pipeline is 9.5 billion dollars.
