The President of the United States Donald trump during a joint press conference with President of Finland Sauli Niinisto said that the United States is there to protect the Baltic States.

The US President Donald trump said on 28 August that America is there to protect the Baltic States and together with the allies will be ready to confront any threat that may represent the joint naval exercises of China and Russia, which take place in the Baltic sea.

“We protect this region. That’s all I can say. We are very, very ready to defend. We have wonderful friends,” said trump after talks with President of Finland Sauli Niinistö.

Russian-Chinese naval exercises in the Baltic sea has caused tensions in the region and the objective of a recent tour of the Vice President of the United States Mike Pence in the Baltic States to reassure NATO allies of U.S. commitment to the 5th article of the Treaty of Alliance.

In turn, the President of Finland Sauli Niinistö said the President of Russia Vladimir Putin had assured him that Russian-Chinese exercises pose no threat Finland, while USA, Finland and Sweden have also conducted military exercises in the Baltic.

“We must be very careful not to allow any incidents, because such large-scale exercises and a huge movement of military equipment can create a problem, which will grow into something else,” – said Niinistö, saying that he considers very important to continue the dialogue between NATO and Russia.

When taking office as President, Donald trump is also expected to improve relations with Russia, but in advance of Russia’s intervention in presidential elections in the United States has violated these plans.

Moscow and Central deny the existence of any collusion, which could sposobstovat the victory of Donald trump at the election of the President of the United States.

In early August, trump signed a law on new American sanctions against Russia.

Trump called the Baltic States “a very important part of the world.”

“If necessary, we are able to resist all kinds of threats. I hope we don’t have to do this, but, if need be, we will be able to resist them,” said trump.
