Both houses of the legislature of Vermont passed a bill that increases the minimum age to purchase a firearm to 21, and stricter checks of potential buyers. The bill also prohibits the sale of multiply stores and devices that allow for automatic fire with semi-automatic rifles.

The bill must be approved by the Governor, Republican Phil Scott. Scott previously opposed tougher gun control, however, has changed position, once in Vermont had arrested a teenager, who threatened to kill fellow students at his school. This incident occurred two days after the mass murder in a school in Parkland, Florida.
