For many centuries people have used wind power to move ships at sea. But what if you try to create a land vehicle that can use the wind as a driving force? Thus to make so that it could move even against the wind direction, that is, anywhere. American engineer Kyle Karstens has developed just such a concept and even printed it scaled-down model on a 3D printer.
Experimental model vehicle for wind-powered called Defy the Wind (“Challenging the wind”). It is a platform on four wheels, as well as unusual rotating sail consisting of four conical bowls. Thanks to this form and vane arrangement of sails, the vehicle is able to move even against the wind direction. Torque through the pinion is transmitted to the rear wheels and the vehicle moves forward. We offer you to watch two short videos showing the operation of the model.
