White house: trump and Putin will not meet in Vietnam

Белый дом: Трамп и Путин не встретятся во Вьетнаме

The White house has explained this decision “busy schedules” of the two leaders

The US President Donald trump will meet with his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin in Vietnam.

This was announced on Friday by the White house.

“As for the meeting with Putin, it has not been confirmed, and it will not be in connection with the busy schedules of both parties”, – said the press Secretary Sarah Sanders shortly before landing the presidential plane in the Vietnamese city of da Nang.

The White house announcement put an end to rumors about a possible meeting between trump and Putin to discuss international and bilateral issues against the background of rapid deterioration of U.S.-Russian relations.

U.S. Secretary of state Rex Tillerson, speaking on Thursday in Beijing, said that the decision on holding a possible meeting of the presidents of the United States and Russia Donald trump and Vladimir Putin in Vietnam is still pending.

“Agreement on the meeting was not, at least, a formal bilateral agreement,” he said, adding that “the question is whether we have enough material” for discussion.

“If we meet, let’s make sure that this will be a meaningful meeting,” he said, referring to the ongoing discussions on the situations in Syria and Ukraine.

Meanwhile, the press Secretary of the President of Russia Dmitry Peskov said Friday the Agency “Interfax” that the meeting Putin on the sidelines of the APEC summit in Vietnam continues to be consistent, but clarity on its implementation yet.

The leaders of the USA and Russia take part in the summit of the Asia-Pacific economic cooperation, which takes place in the Vietnamese city of da Nang.

On Thursday the assistant to the Russian President Yuri Ushakov told journalists that Putin and trump will hold a bilateral meeting in Vietnam this Friday, November 10.
