Maria Zakharova believes that American politicians use manipulation techniques, offering to name the area in honor of Boris Nemtsov in Washington. Earlier this initiative was supported by the United States Senate Committee
The proposal to name the square in Washington by the name of Boris Nemtsov is a manipulation, which is used by American politicians to conduct political struggle. This was stated by the official representative of Russian foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova in the program “History day” on channel RBC.
“It is unfortunate that the representatives of the so-called political elites use the name of the Russian politician, who was one of the brightest representatives of the Russian political elite, his name is just manipulated,” — said Zakharov.
The representative of the foreign Ministry believes that if the U.S. side wants to perpetuate the memory of Nemtsov, need to do it with dignity, “and not as part of a political struggle”.
The U.S. Senate Committee on homeland security and governmental Affairs on may 17 approved a billthat proposes to name the area in front of the Russian Embassy in Washington “Boris Nemtsov Plaza” (Boris Nemtsov Plaza). The name can get a square within the boundaries of Wisconsin Avenue and Edmunds Street and Davis Street. The initiator of the bill became U.S. Senator from Florida, Marco Rubio.
After the adoption of this proposal Zakharov said that this space is now not built up. According to her, the city authorities informed the Russian Embassy that this place might be afraid of the homeless shelter.
“Why did you do that to that man’s name? Or is the stupidity of those political forces that accept USA such decisions, or it’s a hell of cynicism,” said Zakharova (quoted by “Interfax”).
She said that life Nemtsov can be treated in different ways, but we cannot ignore that he held a senior post in Russia. “Apparently, they think so, wanted to do hurt Russia, but showed such catastrophic stupidity and ignorance not even our own, and his own reality that any longer,” — said the official representative of the foreign Ministry.
Boris Nemtsov was Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian government in 1997-1998, and also held the post of Governor of Nizhny Novgorod region. From 2013 to 2015 he was the Deputy of the Yaroslavl regional Duma.
Nemtsov was killed on 27 February 2015 at the Bolshoy Moskvoretsky bridge in the centre of the Russian capital. Journalist Timofei Dzyadko two years ago sent a letter to the mayor asking to install on the bridge plaque. However, the city authorities refused to do so.
The consequence considers that one of the masterminds behind the killings is a former officer of the battalion “North” interior Ministry troops of Ruslan muhudinov. Now he is wanted.
